Easter gift: Cody comes home with us
Hi Everyone
The day before Easter, we drove 4 hours to Kingman, AZ to Fairytale Golden Retrievers to pick up Kodiac Bear (Cody for short). Join us as we take our little guy home....

After we put Cody in our Prius (Pearl is her name), he got to snooping around immediately. He liked Dave's Pepsie in the cupholder.

When we left, we stopped in Kingman for a bite to eat at the Panda Bear Express. Dave got Cody settled in the back seat with a nice doggy seat. This is my favorite photo of these two--even now--the man and his dog....at six weeks old Cody is so attentive to Dave.

I just loved the looks these two were giving one another at our lunch stop.

Here Dave is reassuring Cody after he lays down. I treasure the look Cody is giving him.

It is a four hour drive, one way, back home. Cody chose his favorite place on the armrest between the seats and used Dave's leg as his pillow from time to time.

We planned a stop every hour on the way home to give Cody a chance to pee or poop and just to get up and get out of the car. Lucky for us, he did not get car sick. Here, Cody is out in the weeds with Dave. his favorite thing was to follow our heels and try to jump on our pant legs. He liked being under the protective umbrella of Dave, too.

And here I am with the little puppy. Isn't he adorable?

At every stop we offed Cody water and he eagerly drank his share. Here he is with Dave happy to be at his feet.

Cody loved running loose. The grass was taller than he was, but he loved dashing through it and following Dave around. At every stop he would pee, drink water, play and then get back into the car and promptly go to sleep.

And on another stop, here is Cody chasing after Dave's pant leg. What fun!

At another stop, I happened to have my camera and when I came back to the car Dave was dozing and Cody was asleep. Isn't this sweet?

At the third stop, Stoneman Lake Road, Cody was eager to lap up the water from our make-shift bowl.

As Dave was walking Cody on his leash, Cody grabbed it and in typical Golden Retriever fashion, started walking with it. Then, he started bouncing around, playful, sat down and pulled on it.

Finally, our four hour adventure was over with! We got Cody out of the car and he promptly pooped (thank goodness--outside, not inside) and struggled up the wooden sundeck steps and in he comes into his house for the first time.

And, his first meal at his new home! Needless to say,he was a hungry puppy. And when I tried to add a bit more food, he just bulldozed in and wouldn't let me into that side of the bowl for anything! And tonight, Cody is running around all over the living room and kitchen checking out his new digs. And Dave has already cleaned up a puddle of pee--I told him when Cody wakes up--take him outside to pee and he didn't. He was too busy watching March Madness on TV. I think Dave is going to get a lot of moments where he's going to have to stop watching basketball games and pay attention to Cody. Either that, or he's cleaning up a lot of pee inside the house.....

Hi Pam
as a many-dog household, you know how important they fill out your lives :-). We're very glad to have Cody in ours. Now, we feel 'complete' :-)
Happy Easter!
Warmly, Eileen
Congratulations on your new pack member! Cody is adorable; you're giving me a bad case of puppy lust.
My 2 Flat-coated Retrievers and one Golden Retriever are envious of all the space Cody is going to be able to explore, inner city dogs that they are.
Hi Zubie
Yes, Cody has about 2 acres of fenced in area, Oak Creek to swim in when he gets older and lots of play room--plus his own huge back yard with the bird feeder. He's a lucky dog, no question :-)

Eileen,
Cody is so adorable and has grown a little. I hope Dave does not forget whp is potty training here. The picture of Dave and Cody are so sweet. It is not that often you get a rare picture like that. Sometimes I wished for a camera when my cats would sleep on my lap especially Angel who rarely does. I STARTED YOUR PROJECT i am making and I HAVE DONE A QUARTER OF IT.
love,
ELena AMELL
HI Elaine
Get a camera! And yes they are some great photos. Thanks!

Congratulations on your darling new puppy.......enjoy every minute with him.....they grow up so fast...it's amazing how fast. It seems like only yesterday my 9 month old was that age......nothing cuter than a golden retriever puppy. Love the pictures.....keep them coming.
We have two .......9 month old and one two and half.....they like two peas in a pod.......Golden's are the best.

Hi Nancy
I agree we need to value every minute of Cody's growing up time--it only happens once :-)
Warmly, Eileen
